‘How FG uses satellite to cut running cost’



THE Director General of National Space Research and Development Agency, NARSDA, Dr. Saidu Mohammed, has said that most agencies of government have been connected to satellite to cut cost of
running government. Dr. Seidu stated this after a cost-cutting seminar organised for heads of government agencies in Abuja.

The DG said that although, Nigeria has many Satellites, some foreign satellites are also used to complement the local brands in connecting relevant agencies of government, 152 million GSM limes, dams and data transfer. “All our Dams are linked to satellite, all the oil industries are connected to satellite, even the 152 million GSM lines in the country are connected to satellite, so all the data transfers are done through satellite. “One of them is Communication Satellite, which is today the engine room for communication across board.” In the light of these, he noted that satellite plays a very prominent role in efficiency and effective resource management of the country. He appealed to Federal Government to develop Nigeria’s satellite industry by providing more satellite to boost efficiency of resource management, saying that Nigeria required more satellites to compete with the rest of the world . “It is our belief that development of satellite in this country be given utmost priority, so that issues of efficiency for our country can be.Certainly, the satellites in Nigeria are not enough and we believe that both the Nigerian satellite and the foreign Satellites are being used in the country,” he added. Also speaking, the Auditor General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, said the federal government recognised the importance of technology for efficient resource management and had commenced review of Treasury Single Account, TSA system.
